The Art of Elysium Orientation

Thursday, October 14, 7 to 9 pm, 195 Morgan Ave, Brooklyn, NY, FREE

You are invited to an evening with The Art of Elysium, a national non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the arts to children battling serious medical conditions. Now’s your chance to share your talents and skills to make the live of hospitalized children a little brighter.

During this orientation, discover how The Art of Elysium enables hospitalized children to explore a wide range of artistic mediums so they can gain confidence and find an individual creative voice, even in the midst of overwhelmingly difficult circumstances.

In a city where a free moment is fleeting and it’s all too easy to get caught up in yourself, this is an opportunity to stretch and enrich yourself in ways you never imagined. We hope you’ll come see what it’s all about!

With live bluegrass music and FREE wine.

The Early Show (Arrive before 10pm for $10 entry):

Inhale the last breath of warm weather before Autumn rolls in. Tonight we celebrate the Indian Summer with an early evening gourmet BBQ, a fire-heated hot tub, free chilled champagne and free live tattoos by the Glorious Compton and Crew. Have you been secretly craving new ink? This is your chance to make that mistake in public.

All this and more will be set to live bands:

Re:Redux

When New York electro/dance band BRAZILIAN GIRLS was nominated for a Grammy Award last fall, it seemed an unlikely time for the group to go on hiatus. But singer Sabina Sciubba's pregnancy meant the group would be on break through this summer. Not ones to sit idly by, keyboardist Didi Gutman and drummer Aaron Johnston created a new project: Re:Redux. Be ready to dance. (8:30pm)

Hank & Cupcakes
When Hank & Cupcakes take the stage, their infectious energy dominates the room, generating a fierce groove that immediately has the crowd up and moving. Their throbbing delicacy has a beautiful balance elevating their sound to the level of Brooklyn Favorite. (8pm)

Navagante
When was the last time you heard a band that shook you so deeply you couldn’t help but look at the person next to you with that knowing gaze that says, "holy shit..." Still waiting for that moment? On September 25th, Navagante will provide it. (9pm)

Free Tattoos by Compton’s Crew
This is not henna. A crew of professional tattoo artists will be working under strict hygienic conditions giving free tattoos to those ready to commit to that secret ink you've wanted for years. (9pm to midnight)

Champagne + Hot Tub
Dip in our new fire-heated hot tub (yes, for real), sip free champagne and appreciate the absurd beauty of party bubbling around you. Note: clothing is not optional. (7pm to ?)

The Late Show (dance through sunrise):

At Midnight, the "secret" will be revealed. There will be champagne, there will be fire, there will be a moment that you can’t look away from.

From midnight through sunrise, Under & Above presents Brooklyn's finest dj's:

Dr. Isreal brings a very special Brooklyn underground set from the famed hiphop/drum&bass/dub doctor with guest vocals from resident chanteuse dangereux Rhiannon.

Filling out the rest of the night will be throw-down dance sets from Brooklyn’s favorite dj’s playing house, to dub, to soulfunk from selectors: Scottie B., dj Still Life, Dhundee, Grimace and Brooklyn’s hot new live electronic duo: Infernal Devices.

In the dark room: join the Cumba Mela collective on a sonic journey through a mix of global bass to electro to Balkan funk, with djs and live percussionists featuring: 2melo, Atropolis, Thornato and mcs One Shanti and Polo.

Plus secret acts, mischief and gorgeous performers flying above the crowd featuring the infamous Rosewood, Anya Sapozhnikova of Lady Circus and the sultry secret of the Xola Tribe.

This Saturday is a simple thing. A dark night, a dark loft, and dark secrets shared between friends. Autumn is coming, and we’re holding off the cold. Enjoy it while you can, but tell no one.

Dating is Weird by Hiram Becker and Shaina Feinberg

Lots of people have been dating for years. In fact, it’s the oldest pastime in the world. But not much has been discussed in media about two people, going to get a coffee, holding hands, and enjoying a polar bearskin rug together in a Vermont bungalow. Needing a more passionate analysis of everything dating – from brushing your teeth to Barry White – Shaina and Hiram’s humorous (and weird) perspectives on dating will knock your socks off– or keep them on, depending on your preference.
