The Last Supper Festival 2010

The Last Supper Festival 2010
Saturday, September 18, 6 p to 2 a, 195 Morgan Ave, Bklyn, NY

$10 with 3+ donated cans to The Food Bank for NYC, or $15 without cans

Come lose yourself in the stimulating, multi-sensory experience that is The Last Supper Festival. For one celebratory night in the crux of Summer and Fall, 3rd Ward will offer a true feast for the senses, blending film, edible artwork, music, writing, and food – all addressing the complex act of consumption.

This year’s curatorial theme, “Self-Made”, will explore the creative individual as a self-made person and provocateur of social change.  Over 50 creators will converge in this indoor-outdoor salon to capture the dialogue between our generation and the media, products, and technology of our beautiful, borderless world. All proceeds will benefit the Food Bank for NYC.

Moviehouse Summer Schedule

This summer, Moviehouse turns our projectors outside of 3rd Ward to the hand ball courts of Sternberg Park, where our friends at Open Space Alliance have invited us back for four CinemaParque shows. We've got neighborhood films, art films, dance films, and a ton of interactive work available for free under the stars.

Every show will feature conversations with the filmmakers (including our first ever screened Skype chat) and of course the cut videos and live footage from VJ Clay Franklin.

Here's our current schedule:

July 12

To kick off our summer season, we're partnering with Arts In Bushwick and Reel Works Teen Filmmaking to create brand-new works featuring the artists of Bushwick Open Studios. Four crews will create short movies capturing the life and work of one or more of the dynamic artists and spaces that make up the festival.

July 26

Two weeks later, we're featuring films about the characters, textures, and changes in North Brooklyn, including Diane Nerwen's devastating look at displacement.

August 9

Then it's on to intrepid Latinas who balance social activism with motherhood in Silvia Morales' A Crushing Love, which we are thrilled to present in collaboration with our new friends at Women Make Movies.

August 23

We close the second season of CinemaParque with a brand-new site-specific dance film created at the park by a member of the Dance Film Lab.

Justin Colt Beckman Presents: Rural Famous

Justin Colt Beckman Presents: Rural Famous
2010 3rd Ward Winter Solo Show Artist
October 8, 7 to 10 p, 195 Morgan Ave, Brooklyn, NY, FREE

Hillbilly. Redneck. White trash. These politically- and socially-loaded terms have been used as counterexamples to so-called modernity and progress. Our Solo Show Winner Justin Beckman, a city boy with a country boy heart, gives all that a big "Whatever."

Join us as we celebrate Beckman's work with an opening in our gallery, ice-cold beer, shit- kickin' boots, fiddles galore and a lot of country heart. Beckman uses photo-based works, film/video, sculpture, installation, and new-media to bring an investigation of small town life & rural activities to 3rd Ward. Read Justin's Rural Famous Artist Statement here.

With live bluegrass from the Melody Allegra Band, FREE beer, and FREE apple cider and whiskey, courtesy of Red Jacket Orchards. With support from Hotel Toshi.
