Plastics Fabrication & Casting
This workshop looks at two major contemporary forms of plastics: sheet acrylic and epoxy resin. Plastics present a malleable, economical and expedient medium for creating 3-dimensional forms.
Day one will cover fabrication with sheet acrylics, including cutting, drilling, adhering with solvent and finishing. Day two will cover casting in resin - students will learn the basics of measuring, mixing and casting safely. We will also cover how to properly suspend an object in resin, and what can be used as an additive for color or decoration in a cast object.
Each student will leave with two finished objects, one in acrylic and one in casting resin. Students will be given instruction on how to safely replicate these processes in their own studios or ventilated garages. Plastics present a lot of potential - come and explore what they can do in this two day workshop.
