Photo-Etching

This workshop combines the worlds of graphic arts and metal fabrication. Students will learn how to transfer a drawing, design or pattern onto the surface of sheet copper. Then, using an acid bath, we will etch the surface of the metal to create a three-dimensional image. The etched metal can be used to create jewelry or other metal objects. With different chemistry you can replicate the process on silver and other select metals.

This workshop will focus on how students can replicate the experience in their own homes or studios, and how the technology can be used with other forms of art making. Whether you're an avid printmaker or you fear pictionary—this process doesn't rely on previous drawing skills for success, but can give you a new, easy way of working even if you're a pro.
