Introduction to Fashion Illustration

Learn the basics of fashion illustration through hand-rendering while exploring your own personal style. We will begin with pencil drawings and then progress through a multitude of color mediums. The first two class sessions will focus on drawing the 10 head fashion figure as well as a variety of poses from imagination and fashion magazines. Then students will be introduced to drawing from a styled fashion model.

As color is demonstrated and explored, students can choose to work in marker, colored pencil, watercolor, gouache, ink, collage, or mixed media. Figure placement and page layout will be taught, as well as an introduction to illustrating fabric. A final project of 5-7 illustrated fashion figures as a poster or a fashion ad will be due for the last class session, which we will critique as a group.

A basic kit will be provided including a spiral bound sketch pad, HB and mechanical pencil, tracing paper, grid paper, grid rulers, and newsprint. You will have a chance to purchase color supplies once you have chosen a medium to work in.
