Intermediate Jewelry // Bezel Setting

In this two week workshop students will learn the straightforward but very useful process of bezel setting. Using fine silver bezel wire, students can set a flat bottomed stone, piece of wood, leather or other material of their choice. Students will learn how to build the bezel setting, the best strategies for accurate and consistent soldering, and how to efficiently set the element once the setting is complete.
Each student will leave with a simple pendant or ring band, or they may bring in a piece of jewelry completed in an earlier class (like Intro to Silversmithing or Lost Wax Casting) to which they can add the setting. We'll provide all necessary materials, but students are welcome to bring stones or additional materials to set. Please read the welcome email carefully for specifics on which materials will work and which will not, and don't hesitate to send the instructor an email before the start date of the class.
Intro to Jewelry is a prerequisite for this course. If you have comparable silversmithing experience, please email learn@3rdward.com to inquire about waiving the prerequisite.
Instructor
Max Goodman is a working artist and educator. A Philadelphia native, Max earned her BFA from the Tyler School of Art with a double major in Painting and Jewelry/Metalsmithing. After finishing her studies and working for several years in the jewelry design industry both for nationally selling firms and as an independent designer Max spent a year traveling Europe as a wandering horse trainer. In 2009 she relocated to Brooklyn and happily discovered the art-making community here at 3rd Ward.
