Intermediate After Effects // Movies, Masks & Text
This course is for students with basic knowledge of After Effects who are looking to expand their skill set and knowledge of the program. Course content will include the following:
Animating text with animators and selectors (used in animating text for movie credits and TV ads)
-How to add an animator to specify which properties to animate.
-How to use a selector to specify how much each character is affected by the animator.
-How to adjust the animator properties. How to move text along a drawn path or shape...ie. a circle
-An overview of animation presets, including text animation presets
-How to modify the animations created by animation presets
-How to animate text with multiple selectors
Animating Masks
-How to use the different forms of Masking available in After Effects
-Masking still objects and movies
-How to mask by color or transparency (Stencil Alpha and Stencil Luma)
-How to combine masking with the transform properties
Prerequisite: Students must have either have taken Introduction to After Effects or know how to use keyframes in the timeline, and have the basic transforms down. (Position, Rotation, Transparency and Scale).

John Goodwin is an animator, teacher, freelance designer and choreographer Has worked on projects throughout most of North America and Europe for the Bob Hope Show, Joffrey Ballet, Michigan Ballet, Pasadena Ballet, Owensboro Ballet, Capital GE, Price Waterhouse, Lehman Brothers, Emaron Shampoo (Japan), Nomura Securities International and Stanford University.
