Information Architecture with Omnigraffle Pro
The world of application and web development has seen an influx to a new job type known as the Information Architect (IA). IAs are the bridge between developers and designers. Learn what an IA does and how to use the premier tool employed by professionals within leading industry agencies and companies as well as the freelance market. This course is meant for beginning students interested in exploring the full feature set of Omnigraffle to create compelling wire frames and prototypes for apps, sites, and other tools or plug-ins. A basic understanding of data structures, geometry, and human computer interactions (HCI) is helpful but not necessary.
In class we will examine the relationship between designers, coders, and IA’s to better understand the concepts behind user experience and usability at large from the beginning of the development process. We will work hands on with Omnigraffle’s vector editing tools to create and edit the blueprints for a digital product and evaluate our work at the prototype level. Expect to walk away from class with the ability to recognize and critique features, user flows, and accompanying wire frame sets.
This class will take place in our Media Lab, equipped with fully-loaded iMac design workstations. Basic Macintosh computer literacy is required for this course.
