DIY Snow Globes
Make your own glass snow globe with artist Nora Ligorano, as she takes you down the icy slopes and snow-capped roof tops of Bushwick's 3rd Ward. Learn the 101's of globe construction, from water solutions, algecides, glues and sealants, to sourcing parts and materials for your next globe. This class includes a short presentation on building interior landscapes and narrative scenery in the confines of a tiny globe.
Not just for Disney, snow globes have a rich and historical 134-year lifespan, starting with the Eiffel Tower in France in 1889, highlighted by the infamous "Rosebud" in Citizen Kane in the 40's, and "occupied" by the Simpsons in the recent opening of their episodes.
Each participant will construct a 4" glass snow globe, start to finish, and leave with a sourcing list for materials and coveted trade secrets from a seasoned globe maker.
Optional: Students should bring whatever tiny plastic or ceramic figures they'd like to include in their globes--no more than 1.5" wide x 1" high x 1.5" thick. The instructor will also have some figures on hand.
