DIY Printmaking

Explore methods of printmaking which do not require a press and can easily be done at home! Students will learn the basic principles of relief with EZcutting & Linocutting, Monotyping using plexi, as well as experiments with photocopy transfer processes. The class will demonstrate these techniques, and allow students the chance to practice, and make multiples of their imagery. At the end of class, students will leave with a collection of new art.
This class is geared toward beginners. No prior knowledge of printmaking is necessary.
Please bring 5-10 photocopies of images you want to use in class. Note: they MUST BE PHOTOCOPIES, just computer printouts will not work for the transferring process. Images should be simple and small, around 4" x 5" and in black and white. We'll provide you with your own personal tool kit, ink and some printmaking paper, but you should bring any other material you might want to print on. The possibilities are endless!

Instructor
Christine Garvey is a NY based artist and printmaker. She received her BFA in Printmaking and Drawing from Washington University in St. Louis, and later moved to Thailand where she studied with Chiang Mai Art on Paper’s Master Printer, Kitikong Tilokwattanotai. Katie Shulman graduated from the University of Michigan’s School of Art & Design with a focus in Printmaking. She currently resides in Brooklyn, where she works in arts administration and experiments with DIY printmaking techniques at her kitchen table.
