Chain Making

This workshop covers all the basic chains and patterns that can be created by simply linking jump rings. Jump rings are circles of wire with a split that can be opened and closed with jeweler’s pliers. Jump rings are commonly found linking pendants and components together, and are what make up chain maille. Students will learn three patterns: no-name chain, bird’s nest chain and chain maille.
We will also discuss how to alter the patterns, either by varying the size of the jump ring, running the chain through a draw plate or creating a new pattern. These chains are an excellent component in jewelry, clothing or accessories, or can stand alone. This workshop is perfect for someone with the mindset of knitting, but who can’t stand string—or who just wants something more bad-ass and durable.
