Break-Even Analysis Workshop
Our goal will be to understand the basics of creating a break-even analysis of products. Pricing is an important part of having a sustainable business, and you need to make sure that you know what your break-even price-point is: the price below which you are actually losing money on a sale.
Calculation on break-even is based on taking into account not only direct costs (such as labor and materials) but also making sure the margin is enough to cover overhead (indirect) expenses as well.
In order to effectively calculate your break-even point, you need to know your direct and indirect costs as well as how many units you can realistically sell in a given month.
This three hour workshop will help you think strategically about all of the variables and run through some simple calculations for break even using Excel or Open Office. Students should bring their own laptop with a working copy of Excel or Open Office. Those without access to a laptop may still be able to participate with a calculator and paper.
