CustomMade : The Custom Revolution

CustomMade: The Custom Revolution
Thursday, May 17, 7:30-9:30
195 Morgan Ave // FREE

Join us as we welcome Mike Salguero, CEO and co-founder of CustomMade.com, to discuss the unique trends that are emerging surrounding the idea of “custom” and the value behind transforming your craft into an beautiful story to engage a customer.

CustomMade is the first and largest online marketplace that connects customers looking for custom pieces with skilled craftsman across the country who create them. Regardless of your craft, there is a market waiting for you on CustomMade.

Over the past 5 months CustomMade has driven over $750,000 dollars worth of work to their group of artisans.

From the uprising of the buy local trend to the turn towards hand crafted products, one thing is certain- America’s love affair with the spirit of craft is alive and well. Consumers have a new found desire to know who is creating the products that they choose to bring into their home. As we steer away from big-business retailers and mass-made products, we look toward custom to fill our needs. Today’s customer desires to develop a relationship with their jeweler or their woodworker. They want their handcrafted table or pendant to tell a story and they want to be along every step of the way. With the core belief that custom is always a better alternative, CustomMade.com has managed to create a community of makers and customers who share the same feeling.

Raising Money For Your Start-up // Lecture

Raising Money for your Start-up
Tuesday, May 8
// 7:30 to 9:30 pm
195 Morgan Ave // $20

Fundraising is one of the essential jobs of a great leader, alongside setting company strategy, recruiting, managing a great team towards agreed upon goals and communicating effectively with key external constituents.

Despite all the stories these days about new startups getting funded, the reality is that only a small percentage of startups that seek venture capital actually end up successfully raising money. So it is especially important for entrepreneurs to understand best practices for fundraising.

Join us and Mo Koyfman of Spark Capital for a discussion on startup fundraising and best practices. Be prepared with questions, both general and from personal experience, as this is intended to be an open and interactive discussion.

Mo Koyfman is a General Partner at Spark Capital. He has led Spark’s investments in Aviary, DIY, GDGT, Skillshare, Svpply and Work Market. Prior to joining Spark, Mo spent six years at IAC (NASDAQ: IACI) in a variety of strategic, transactional and operational roles. He most recently served as Chief Operating Officer of Connected Ventures, parent of CollegeHumor.com, Vimeo.com and BustedTees.com, and previously held the roles of Vice President of Programming and Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions.

Mo began his career as an investment banker at Bear Stearns where he focused on mergers & acquisitions and capital raising in the media, entertainment and technology sectors.
Mo also serves on the board of ArtWorks, a non-profit that brings creative and performing arts therapy to children and young adults suffering from chronic and life-threatening illnesses. Mo graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania where he received a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School with a concentration in Finance and a B.A. in English from The College of Arts & Sciences.
