We're hosting a fabulous release party for Outpost Journal's Baltimore edition.  Outpost Journal is an annual, non-profit print publication on innovative art, design and community action from cities that have been traditionally underexposed beyond their local
contexts.

Each issue is a journey into the creative heart of a place, exposing the various ways in which unique local communities arise through collaboration and production.

The launch party for Issue 2 will celebrate the creative culture of Baltimore, MD, providing opportunities for exposure and exchange with artists and friends from New York and Providence, the two cities from whence the Outpost team hails.

There'll be live music + DJs:  Romantic States (Baltimore), Nautical Almanac (Baltimore), and Micah
Jackson (Providence, RI). There will also be a juried group art show of Baltimore-affiliated
artists and a photo booth with issue-themed props and artistic costumes. Refreshments will be served by our event sponsor, Narragansett Beer, Grown Up Soda & delicious eats from Rucola.

This is Your Brain on Art - SOLD OUT

This is Your Brain on Art
dtpE - The Deconstructive Theatre Project EXPERIENCE, Event 2
Thursday, September 13, 2012 // 8:00 to 10:00 pm
195 Morgan Ave // $20

Are you curious about what occurs inside your head while you sit in the dark watching a film? How does your mind organize the bombardment of images, voices, music, and light in order to create a cohesive narrative experience? How does your brain keep track of story, why do you empathize so effortlessly with the characters, and what leads you to fall in love with or loathe a film?

This is Your Brain on Art is an interactive panel discussion exploring neuroaesthetics: the study of your brain during an artistic experience, and specifically neurocinematics: the study of your brain on film. The interactive conversation will feature guest cognitive neuroscientists and members of The Deconstructive Theatre Project's performance ensemble and creative team. The conversation will be moderated by the company's Founding Director, Adam J. Thompson.

This is Your Brain on Art is a part of The Deconstructive Theatre Project's dtpE - The Deconstructive Theatre Project EXPERIENCE series. dtpE is a community supported theatre initiative. dtpE events open up conceptual and formal elements of The Deconstructive Theatre Project's annual production, providing participants with opportunities to engage with the development of the piece in collaborative ways.  Events are designed to immerse participants in the artistic life cycle of the work by regularly bringing community members together with company artists and partner organizations in social and creative ventures.

About the Featured Artist:

Ashley Zelinskie
is an Brooklyn-based artist born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and recent graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. Her 2011 work, Reverse Abstraction, is a series of works created in binary and hexadecimal code. These codes are the basis of a computer’s language. The ones and zeros stand for the processors most basic functions of on and off. The works in this series are taking the idea that this is how a computer would perceive art. The hexadecimal paintings included in this series are reproductions of master paintings. High quality images are taken from Google Art project and broken down into their basic hexadecimal code. The finished product leaves the viewer with a buzzing optical illusion that upon close inspection is the one pixel code that describes how a computer interprets art.
