Come and get it! Goods is ready to take your order.

You know that big shiny trailer on the corner of Lorimer and Metropolitan? It serves burgers. And not just any burgers. The most melt-in-your-mouth tender Pat LaFrieda patties with sweet caramelized onions, perfectly ripened tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, all on a perfectly-sized bun. Your new favorite burger? You've just found it.
Starting today, satisfy every breakfast, lunch and dinner craving at Goods, our vintage Spartan trailer serving up some seriously awesome eats: burgers, hot dogs, fish & chips, breakfast sandwiches and crazy addictive caramel corn. Chef Alex McCrery, former sous-chef at the legendary Commander's Palace, is cooking the type of classic, high-quality food you can't help but love.

Join us now during our "soft open" period. Next Saturday, June 19th, Goods officially opens along with its lush abandoned lot-turned-urban oasis.

You've seen it, you've read about it, now come take a taste! Goods is open 7a-10p M-F, and 7a-midnight on weekends.

3rd Ward and The Danger raise over $23,000 for Haiti

It started at 9p, and ended well past sunrise. This past Saturday, 3rd Ward and The Danger raised over $23,000 for Domes of Haiti with Beauty + Ruin, a glorious fire-spouting, tattered gown-wearing night of art, music, and performance. Our entire 2nd floor -- 13,000 square feet -- transformed into a landscape of devastating beauty featuring large geodesic domes, ragged tents, hidden lounges, and performances ranging from Haitian dance, to Brooklyn's brashest marching bands, to a roving sangria pump. We are humbled by this incredible contribution and thank all our performers, our build crew, and the over 1,000 people who made Beauty + Ruin an unforgettable night that will make a real impact in Haiti's still-urgent aftermath.

Domes for Haiti is a grass roots disaster relief project based out of Brooklyn that addresses the immediate need for hurricane resistant shelter in Haiti. They are committed to sending ten pre-fabricated portable geodesic domes to Haiti in time for Hurricane season. This project was conceived in late February in response to the lack of safe shelter presently available for displaced people in Haiti, specifically, orphans.

R.I.P. Rue McClanahan

Here at 3rd Ward, we've always been fans of the inimitable tv show, Golden Girls, and especially its Southern spitfire, Blanche Devereaux. We'll miss you, Rue!

Yowza! Goods breakfast inspires major dry cereal envy

If you're eating some boring breakfast now, you may want to avert your eyes. Goods, the new food truck by our co-founders on the corner of Lorimer and Metropolitan, just served us this masterpiece: a homemade buttermilk biscuit with a sunny-side up egg, homemade sausage patty, and NY State Farm cheese. As delicious as it looks, it was even more heavenly to taste.

As a loyal blog reader, you're invited to Goods' soft opening period, starting June 9th. The restaurant and the garden officially open to the public on June 19th. Check out the full lunch, dinner, and brunch menu here

Scenes from a 3rd Ward Class: Answer!

If you didn't catch it, we posted a pic on our Facebook page and asked: what's happening?

We had a couple guesses, including one involving cave structures in Fraggle Rock, one that quite frankly had us scratching our heads, and another that came so, so close.

The gentleman in the picture is using a dremel tool to carve wax that will be cast in bronze. For more info, visit our Intensive Casting class listing. Pretty cool, huh?

Bushwick Open Pages, this weekend at Bushwick Open Studios

Image via Bluejeeves (http://www.flickr.com/photos/braden71) on a Creative Commons license. Miami might have Art Basel, Manhattan has the Armory Show...and this weekend, our very own neighborhood has its yearly art extravaganza, Bushwick Open Studios!

While you're checking out the more than 275 artist studios, group shows and events, make sure you stop by 3rd Ward. Along with Slice magazine, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, we'll be hosting Bushwick Open Pages, a celebration of independent publishing in Brooklyn. Exhibitors from all walks of the literary arts--culture journals, zines, and online publications--are exhibiting their craft.

Come celebrate the written word, the printed page, and the creative minds of Brooklyn. Stop by on June 5th or 6th, from 12-6p.

* If you want to exhibit, limited table space is available! If you represent a Brooklyn-based magazine, zine, or online publication, feel free to e-mail cab.fredericks@slicemagazine.org. All table space is provided free of charge; all participants are welcome to make whatever use they wish of the space granted.
