Tim Kent at Factory Fresh

Tim Kent at Factory Fresh, 1053 Flushing Avenue, Thursday, October 17, 7 to 10 p

3rd Ward friend Tim Kent will open a new exhibition at Factory Fresh.  He has used mostly figurative motifs and animal allegories for his large-format canvases and drawings which weave between abstraction and representation in order to present a depiction of reality that is constantly redefining itself.

There is a claustrophobic inclusion of the spectator in Tim Kent’s painting….The spectator finds himself in the architectural space as the sole occupant, reversing the natural role of looking. The depicted space is usually thought of as being looked into. Here the spectator is, to some degree, included in the picture space; whilst that which is usually the spectator’s attention, the figure framed in the picture, is absent.

Be sure to check it out!

Gwar at 3rd Ward!

This morning when we got to work we thought a character from our Antistrot mural had sprouted legs and lept from the walls.  But to our relief it was only Oderus Urungus, the front man from Gwar!  3rd Ward Instructor, Jon Ehinger got to sit down with the man behind the great American thrash metal band best known for their elaborate sci-fi, horror film inspired costumes; raunchy, obscene lyrics; and graphic stage performances.  He also got to be the first person ever to don the Oderus costume (seen right).

As long as he keeps "that thing" away from us, we say awesome!
