From 3rd Ward to SXSW, Adieu Preston!

Toby Goodshank, "Untitled"Our dear intern, Preston Spurlock, will be leaving 3rd Ward tomorrow. He's helped us out since last summer, and while we're sad to see him go, we're sure this super-talented animator, filmmaker, and visual artist is going to make it big. Check out the 3rd Ward videos he did of Drink n Draw, our birthday bbq and Joshua Kirsch presents Sympathetic Resonance to see what we mean.

His next project? Two short films at SXSW (March 11-20)! If you're headed to Austin, make sure to check out Preston's work.

In this animated music video, Toby Goodshank, "Untitled", Preston combined newsreel footage and rotoscope techniques to transform the infamous Hindenberg blimp into a cartoon character, merrily singing as it drifts obliviously towards its fiery finish.

U.S. Girls, "Red Ford Radio"In U.S. Girls, "Red Ford Radio", Preston and co-director Jacqueline Castel created a music video using old junk store women's magazines and an ordinary photocopier. The source materials were cut from old women’s magazines found in junk stores. They used alike images to create repetitive animation cycles, reinforcing the jarring idea that women, products, and lifestyles were at one time completely interchangeable.
